My first scrap yarn basket

Of lately, I’ve been busy churning out scrap yarn baskets! It’s a fab way to use up leftover yarn from earlier projects or even yarn that you don’t like (easily one of the perils of buying yarn online – sometimes it’s not the colour you want or the right texture for a certain project you have in mind).

I referred to this pattern for my baskets and used a mix of yarn, ranging from

  • Acrylic
  • Wool
  • Cotton-milk blend
  • Polycotton
  • Mercerized cotton

In terms of weight, you’ll need to ensure that you maintain the right weight/feel of the yarns whenever you do a switch – for example, if you’ve run out of worsted weight yarn, you’ll need to use at least two DK weight yarns to get the same weight. Otherwise your basket will tighten inwards – which was what happened to me with the first basket I made.

Colour-wise, feel free to mix everything up. As you can see, it will look pretty and rustic no matter what you do!

These baskets are handy – I use them as a temporary yarn bag while my kids use them to keep small soft toys. They are super great stash busters and bring an extra pop of colour into your home. In fact, I plan to knit up smaller versions for my flower pots! Tehehehehe.

I knit. I crochet. I bake. I travel. I read. I write. I take pictures. I blog. I sing. I work. I play. I design. I feel. I love. I live.

As you can see, I am quite a busy person. After having relocated to France, I am now a part-time English teacher with a small business selling crochet items and patterns.

Before my big move, I worked in publishing and public relations prior to my last job as a communications lecturer in a tertiary institution. I was even once a business owner, selling artisanal skincare products and cold-processed soap.
